Lexus will stop building the UX in February 2027, ending the run of a compact crossover that went on sale in 2018 and is still the least expensive Lexus in America.

Lexus will stop building the UX in February 2027, ending the run of a compact crossover that went on sale in 2018 and is still the least expensive Lexus in America.

The announcement appeared as a production-end notice on Lexus’s Japanese website, which also warned that sales could stop earlier if orders fill the remaining production plan. Lexus has not announced a successor or said what the end of production means for the U.S., where the UX 300h starts at $38,850.

Kuruma News reported the notice on September 4, saying it read that the UX would end production as of February 2027 and advising buyers to check with dealers. The UX launched in Japan in November 2018 under the concept "Creative Urban Explorer," first with a 2.0-liter gas model and the UX250h hybrid. An electric UX300e followed in 2020 and ended production in November 2025, and a December 2023 update renewed the hybrid system and renamed it UX300h. Kuruma News put the UX at 4,495 mm (177.0 inches) long, a size that still fits Japan’s mechanical parking garages.

The UX has been a quiet success worldwide. Cars24 reported that Lexus counts about 400,000 UX sales across more than 80 countries and regions as of June 2026. Lexus Australia called the UX "an important part of its local line-up" without giving more detail, and Australian sales were down 17.2% to 569 through July. Cars24 also pointed out the problem for the U.S., one of Lexus’s two biggest markets, because the smaller LBX, which sits below the UX in other markets, isn’t sold here.

American demand is holding steady. Toyota Motor North America’s 2025 sales release shows 8,877 UX sales in 2024 and 8,421 in 2025, and the company’s third-quarter 2026 report shows 7,050 through September, up from 6,899 a year earlier. September sales rose to 531 from 426.

A replacement may be coming, but only as a rumor so far. TVBS reported that Japanese media expect a larger next-generation UX with hybrid and plug-in hybrid power as soon as late 2027, though Lexus hasn’t confirmed whether the UX name will continue.

The Toyota Report Take

The UX was never exciting, but it did an important job by giving shoppers a way into a Lexus showroom for under $40,000. Losing it without a confirmed replacement would leave a real hole in the American lineup, because the next-cheapest model on Lexus’s 2026 price sheet, the NX 350h at $46,570, costs $7,720 more and the LBX isn’t sold here. Lexus needs to say soon what U.S. buyers will get in its place, or those entry buyers will drift to other brands.
