The Base 2027 4Runner’s ‘Big Jump’ Isn’t What It Looks Like

On paper, the cheapest 2027 Toyota 4Runner, the 4×2 SR5, takes the year's biggest price hike at $2,120, or 5.1%.

On paper, the cheapest 2027 Toyota 4Runner, the 4×2 SR5, takes the year’s biggest price hike at $2,120, or 5.1%.

That number is almost certainly a typo, and the real increase is probably $1,620, the same as the 4×4 SR5’s and still the largest of any 2027 4Runner.

The $2,120 figure comes from a 2027 pricing sheet posted to Reddit, which lists the 4×2 SR5 at $41,370 for 2026 and $43,490 for 2027, and commenters on the thread singled it out as a big jump for the base trim. Toyota has not published official 2027 pricing.

The problem is the sheet’s 2026 price, because four-wheel drive costs exactly $2,000 on every other 4Runner trim and on the 2027 SR5, where the 4×2 is $43,490 and the 4×4 is $45,490. The sheet’s 2026 numbers instead put the 4×4 SR5, at $43,870, a full $2,500 above the 4×2. A 2026 price of $41,870 would restore the $2,000 gap, and it’s also the 2026 launch price plus the $300 the sheet adds to every other 2026 price, which makes the real increase $1,620, or 3.9%.

Even at $1,620, the SR5 takes more than any other 4Runner, since the TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road go up $1,270 and most other versions only $590. That narrows the gap to the next trim up: a 4×2 TRD Sport is now $6,130 more than a 4×2 SR5, down from $6,480, and a 4×4 TRD Off-Road is $6,070 more than a 4×4 SR5, down from $6,420. With the $1,595 delivery fee, the cheapest 4Runner now starts at $45,085.

The Toyota Report Take

The base 4Runner still costs more for 2027, just not by as much as the leaked sheet suggests. Toyota is raising the price of the 4Runner most buyers start with while barely touching the trims above it, and with the gap to a TRD Sport or TRD Off-Road down to about $6,100, more SR5 shoppers will take a look at the next trim up.
