The i-FORCE MAX hybrid still costs $2,800 more than the gas engine on the 2027 Toyota 4Runner.

The gap is the same on every trim that offers both. A 4×4 TRD Off-Road costs $51,560 with the gas engine and $54,360 as a hybrid, a TRD Off-Road Premium $56,660 and $59,460, and a Limited $59,090 and $61,890. For 2026 the hybrid also cost $2,800 more on all three, so the hybrids went up by exactly as much as the gas versions.

The prices come from a 2027 pricing sheet posted to Reddit. Toyota has not published official 2027 pricing.

The $2,800 buys power rather than economy. According to Toyota, the i-FORCE MAX makes 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque, against up to 278 horsepower and 317 lb-ft for the gas 2.4-liter turbo, an extra 148 lb-ft.

The fuel savings are much smaller, because the EPA rates the 2026 4Runner 4×4 at 21 mpg combined and the hybrid at 23 mpg, with estimated annual fuel costs of $3,050 and $2,800, so at $250 a year the hybrid takes more than 11 years to pay for itself at the pump.

The hybrid is the only engine on the Platinum, Trailhunter and TRD Pro, and every i-FORCE MAX 4Runner is a 4×4.

The Toyota Report Take

Buy the 4Runner hybrid for the torque, not the fuel savings. An extra 148 lb-ft makes a real difference with a trailer or on a trail, and $2,800 is a fair price for it. Toyota keeping the premium flat for 2027, when every other price went up, makes the hybrid a slightly better deal than it was.
