2027 Lexus NX Goes Hybrid-Only

The 2027 Lexus NX comes only as a hybrid or a plug-in hybrid.

The lineup is the NX 350h and the NX 450h+, each in Premium, Premium+, F SPORT and Luxury grades. The NX 350h Premium and Premium+ come with front- or all-wheel drive, while the NX 350h F SPORT and Luxury and every NX 450h+ are all-wheel drive only.

Lexus announced the changes in its 2027 NX release on October 20, calling it "a 100% electrified lineup." That leaves out the gas-only NX 350, which made 275 horsepower for 2026, according to Lexus.

Both powertrains get more power, by Lexus’s preliminary figures: the NX 350h is rated at 244 horsepower, 4 more than for 2026, and the NX 450h+ at 324 horsepower, up from 304, thanks to a new 203-horsepower front motor. The plug-in’s new battery has 8% more output and 8% more capacity, and Lexus estimates 45 miles of electric range, against the 2026 model’s EPA rating of 37 miles.

Lexus’s fuel economy estimates are 44/35/40 mpg city/highway/combined for the front-drive NX 350h and 42/34/38 mpg with all-wheel drive. The NX 450h+ is estimated at 37 mpg combined, or 36 mpg as an F SPORT. EPA ratings will come closer to the on-sale date.

The NX 450h+ also gets a NACS-style charging port and standard DC fast charging. On a 50-kW charger, Lexus says the battery goes from 10% to 80% in 35 minutes.

Outside, the NX gets a mesh grille, a two-line headlight signature and new "Double L" taillights, and black trim replaces the chrome on the mirrors and moldings. New colors are Shaded Ivy, Incognito for the F SPORT only, and Iridium, which replaces Atomic Silver. The F SPORT adds 20-inch wheels, a front under spoiler, side pontoons and optional red brake calipers.

Every grade gets a 14-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, Lexus Safety System+ 4.0, Digital Key 2.0, a drive recorder and wireless phone charging. Lexus says cabin engine noise is down about 20%, and the steering wheel is 0.4 inches smaller at 14.2 inches, paired with a new variable-ratio steering rack. The NX 350h is built in Ontario, Canada, and in Kyushu, Japan, and the NX 450h+ in Kyushu.

Lexus hasn’t announced pricing, but it expects the NX to reach markets worldwide by the end of 2026, and we’ll update this story when 2027 prices come out.

The Toyota Report Take

Dropping the turbo NX 350 trades 31 horsepower on the base all-wheel-drive model for an estimated 38 mpg combined instead of 24, which is the right trade for most NX buyers. The bigger story is the plug-in, where 45 miles of electric range and DC fast charging make the NX 450h+ easier to live with as an electric commuter, and its price will decide whether it’s the NX to buy.
